RSUST Postgraduate Admission Form –Authorities of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into full-time and part-time Postgraduate Programmes of the university.

Available Courses

Admission Requirements

Applicants with the qualifications in the under-listed categories shall be eligible for admission into the postgraduate programmes; however, candidates must also fulfil the matriculation requirements of Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Orowomkwo, Port Harcourt.

i) All candidates must possess a minimum of five ordinary-level credit passes which must include English Language and Mathematics.

1. FULL-TIME COURSES

A. Postgraduate Diploma

1. Holders of at least a Third Class Degree in the subject area applied for or a Second Class (Lower Division) degree in a related discipline, obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other recognized institution.
2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least lower credit classification or its equivalent in a related discipline, obtained from a recognized institution.
3. For the Faculty of Engineering, candidates must be holders of at least a Third Class or Pass degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution.
4. Candidates for PGD in the Department of Electrical Engineering must be holders of a B.Sc. or B.Tech. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering; Physics with Electronics or Computer Science.

B. Master’s Degree programmes

1. Candidates seeking admission into the Full-time/Part-time Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in the relevant discipline.
2. Candidates who hold PGD, PGDE, PGDTE in the relevant discipline or an equivalent Diploma (in Maritime Transport, Marine Engineering or Nautical Studies, Master Mariner, Marine Engineers Class 1) with CGPA of 3.50 or above (on a five-point grade system) may apply for the Master’s Programmes.
3. Candidates for MSc in Surveying and Geomatics must be holders of B.Sc/B. Tech in Surveying and Geomatics degree with at least 2nd Class Lower Division or equivalent from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other approved University;
4. Candidates for the M.Ed. degree programmes offered in the Faculty of Technical and Science Education/Institute of Education should possess a good Bachelor’s degree (not lower than Second Class Lower Division) in a relevant teaching subject.

C. Doctor of Philosophy Programmes

A candidate for a PhD programme shall:
1. Possess a Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 or above, on a five-point grade system, in a relevant discipline, obtained from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other recognized institution of higher learning of equivalent status.
2. Candidates for PhD in Surveying and Geomatics must have an M.Sc in Surveying and Geomatics degree with a CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale or 60% weighted average from Rivers State University of Science and Technology or any other institution of equivalent
status.
3. Present himself or herself for a qualifying interview, if need be.

No person shall be admitted to a programme unless his/her application has been approved by the Postgraduate School Board on behalf of the Senate and the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Committee.

Note: In addition to the conditions above, a candidate may be required to present himself/herself for a selection test and/or oral interview.

2. PART-TIME COURSES

A. Postgraduate Diploma

Postgraduate Diploma Programme in Management Sciences; A candidate will be admitted into this programme if he/she possesses the following:
a) Five Credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics at 0/Level;

b) Higher National Diploma of Upper Credit classification in any of the disciplines in Management Sciences/Business Administration from recognized Polytechnics or Universities approved by the Senate of RSU.
c) Bachelor Degree with at least second class division from areas not related to Business.
d) Bachelor degrees not lower than third class division in Management Sciences of recognized Universities.
e) Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma in law are expected to possess any of the following minimum requirements:
a. A First Degree in Law with a minimum of Third Class (Honors) Degree.
b. A Pass degree with at least five (5) years of working experience c. Candidates should have a minimum of five (5) credits at the 0′ Level with Credits in English Language and Mathematics

B. Maters Degree Programmes

A candidate seeking admission into the Part-time Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in the relevant discipline.
a. For admission into M Sc in Management Sciences a candidate is required to possess:
i. Bachelor’s degrees not lower than SECOND CLASS DIVISION in relevant areas or any related discipline in Business from any recognized institutions approved by the Senate of RSU.
ii. First-class degree holders in Arts or Science or HND in UPPER CREDIT DIVISION and above who have completed a PGD or MBA degree in relevant areas.
b. Candidates seeking admission into the LLM Degree must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s Degree (LLB) in law with a second class Honors (Lower Division) from this or any other recognized University or A Postgraduate Diploma in law passed at the credit level obtained from this University or any other recognized University.

c. Candidates seeking admission into the MALD Programme must possess a minimum of a Bachelor of Laws (LLM) Degree with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) or a First Degree in any other field with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Law passed at the credit level obtained from this University or any other approved University.

C. Doctor of Philosophy Programmes

A candidate for a PhD programme shall possess the following:
a) A Master’s degree with a CGPA of 3.50 or above, on a five-point grade system, in a relevant discipline, obtained from the Rivers State University or any other recognized institution of higher learning of equivalent status.
b) Candidates for the PhD Degree in the Part-Time Programme in the Faculty of Management Sciences should possess any of the following:
1. A Master of Philosophy in the relevant area as indicated above from a recognized University with a CGPA of not less than 3.50.
2. For M Sc/PhD candidates should possess an MBA degree with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 on a 5-point scale or 3.00 and a 4-point scale in Management Sciences Disciplines from any recognized institution approved by the senate of RSU.
3. MSc. Degree in Management Sciences Disciplines from any recognized university with a CGPA of not less than 3.50 on a 5-point scale from a recognized University.
c. Candidates for the (PhD) Degree in the Part-Time Programme in the Faculty of Law should possess any of the following:-
i. A Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) Degree in Law from a recognized University.
ii. A Master of Laws (LLM) Degree from an approved University with a research dissertation and a weighted course work average of not less than 60% or a C.G.P.Aof at least 3.50

Note: In addition to the conditions above, a candidate may be required to present himself/herself for a selection test and/or oral interview.

Duration.

A. FULL-TIME COURSES

  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programmes run for two semesters (minimum) and four semesters (maximum) with or without project writing.
  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Engineering runs for four semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum) with a project.
  • The full-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Transport Planning and Logistics and Supply Chain Planning runs for three semesters (minimum) and four semesters (maximum).
  • The part-time Postgraduate Diploma programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for four semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme with a dissertation is structured to last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme with a dissertation in the Faculty of Engineering is structured to last for a minimum of four semesters and a maximum of six semesters.
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for three semesters (minimum) and six semesters (maximum).
  • The part-time Master’s degree programme in Surveying and Geomatics runs for four semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Master’s degree programme in Transport Planning and Logistics and Supply Chain Planning will run for four semesters (minimum) and five semesters (maximum).
  • The full-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes with thesis run for six semesters (minimum) and eight semesters (maximum).

B. PART-TIME COURSES

A. FOR THE FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT SCIENCES PROGRAMMES THE DURATION SHALL BE:

  • (i) The Part-Time PhD Programme in the Faculty of Management Sciences shall run for a minimum of four (4) years of eight (8) semesters. Two years of four (4) semesters of coursework and two years of four (4) semesters of Seminars and thesis writing. The maximum number of years is six (6) years.
  •  (ii) The MSc/PhD Programme shall run for a minimum of four (4) years of eight (8) semesters. One year of two (2) Semesters
  • MSc coursework, Two years of four (4) Semesters of PhD coursework and Seminars; and one year of two (2) semesters of thesis writing. The maximum number of years is six (6) years.
  •  (iii) The Part-Time MSc Programme shall run for a minimum of three (3) years of six (6) semesters. Two years of four (4) semesters of coursework and one year of two (2) semesters of dissertation writing. The maximum number of years is four (4) years.
  •  (iv) The Part-Time PGD Programme shall run for a minimum of two (2) years of four (4) semesters. The maximum number of years is three (3) years of six semesters.

B. FOR THE FACULTY OF LAW PROGRAMMES THE DURATION SHALL BE:

  • The Part-Time PhD Programme with M. Phil shall run for a minimum of four (4) years of Eight (8) Semesters. Two years of four (4) semesters of coursework and two years of four (4) Semesters of Seminars and thesis writing. The maximum number of years is six (6) years for PhD with M.Phil.
  • The Part-Time PhD programme with an LLM shall run for a minimum period of Four (4) years of Eight (8) Semesters and a maximum period of six (6) years of twelve (12) Semesters. Two (2) years shall be for coursework and Two (2) years for thesis writing.
  • The LLM Programme shall run for a minimum of three (3) years consisting of two (2) years coursework of Four (4) Semesters and a dissertation in the 3rd year. The Maximum duration of this programme is Four (4) years of Eight (8) Semesters.
  • The MALD programme shall run for a minimum of three (3) years consisting of two (2) years, of course, work and a year of dissertation writing. The maximum shall be 5 years or 10 Semesters.
  • The PGD programme at the Diploma Level will run for Two (2) years of Four (4) Semesters minimum and 4 years (Semesters) maximum.

Unless otherwise stated, part-time studies in any Faculty, where it is available, will take twice the duration allowed for the corresponding full-time programmes.

NB: All applicants should NOTE that Part-Time programmes are usually run in the evenings.

How to Apply for RSUST Postgraduate Admission Form

Applications for admission to any postgraduate programme shall be made online by logging onto www.ust.edu.ng and making an e-payment of Thirty-five Thousand Naira (N35,000.00) only, using Interswitch verve–enabled cards. Application forms should be completed online, downloaded and hard copies submitted to the Secretary, Postgraduate School along with the following:

  1. Photocopies of Certificates.
  2. Certified academic transcripts. (It is the responsibility of applicants to ensure that copies of their academic transcripts are forwarded under confidential cover directly to The Secretary, Postgraduate School, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt).
  3. Letter of reference from three referees, including one from a previous academic institution, stating that applicant is qualified to undertake advanced studies and research and that he (the Referee) is confident that the applicant will benefit from the training.

For PhD applicants, brief research proposals on their intended areas of study should also accompany the application forms.

Deadline

The deadline for submission of application forms online and at the Postgraduate School is four weeks from the date of this publication.
