The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Adedimeji emphasised the importance of research and said part of the funds donated by individuals and corporate organisations in respect of COVID-19 in Nigeria should be channelled to research.

The associate professor in the Department of English Language said the government needed to be committed to providing the tools, facilities and an enabling environment for researchers to thrive.

“We have been hovering on the same spot for years by having the same ambivalent attitude to knowledge and research.

“This attitude of paying lip service to or neglecting education and research has to change,” he said.

Adedimeji, however, commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for coming to the rescue of the nation’s tertiary education institutions in areas of critical needs.
