Platform Capital Donates Meeting Rooms to Unilag- The University of Lagos Business School (ULBS) on Thursday, June 4, 2020, unveiled three ultra-modern meeting rooms as part of efforts to improve the state of infrastructure of the school. The facility which was donated by a leading Nigerian Investment and Advisory firm “Platform Capital” to the University is domiciled within the Human Resources Development Centre.
The Executive Director of the Business School, Professor Abraham Osinubi in his welcome remarks took the audience on a journey of how the dream started in 2013 after its approval by the University Senate. He particularly stressed that the school was set up to advance the culture of excellence in Business education with provisions for an executive professional degree, diploma, and certificate programs, relevant to producing a new generation of world leaders and managers in both immediate and long-time businesses.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the University of Lagos Business School Advisory Board and a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babajide Alo, FAS welcomed the dignitaries while describing the days’ event as an epoch-making one considering how the school started. He said as a University known for excellence, the Business school cannot afford to lower the standards already laid by the many successes being recorded by the University while noting that the core values of the school will be apparent in their activities in order to achieve excellence despite the Institution starting late.
The Vice-Chancellor echoed the thoughts of the previous speakers but highlighted that the projects on campus being commissioned and several others embarked upon are a testament to the University vision of being a leading brand in Infrastructural growth coupled with the growing need to transform the scope of learning. He mentioned that today’s’ reality meant the University had to go through the route of public-private arrangement which he noted has been triggered by changes in funding modalities in university governance, accountability frameworks, as well as growing competition among higher education institutions and the evolving student population. He, however, thanked the donor for believing in the University dream.
According to the Chairman of Platform Capital, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, who unequivocally remarked that what makes the University of Lagos different is the obsession to change the narrative. As such, he is delighted to contribute his own quota as a stakeholder who believes in the Nigerian dream while also being optimistic that the school can become the lead others can follow in transforming the enterprise into successful high-impact ones even with the establishment of such a facility. Furthermore, he said it will improve growth and development in four major areas of concerns which includes Education, Entrepreneurship, Gender Equality and Health.
Other dignitaries include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Management Services, Prof Ben Oghojafor; Deputy Vice-Chancellor Development Services, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola; Provost, CMUL, Prof. F E A Lesi; Director Academic Affairs, Prof L.O Chukwu; Former Registrar, Dr. Taiwo Ipaye and the Director of HRDC Dr. Lateef Odekunle amongst others.
