University student invents hybrid fuel-less generator– Gregory University, Uturu, has pioneered the invention of a hybrid fuel-less generator.
The inventor was identified as Prayer Nwojoyi, a 300-level student of the Department of Electrical Electronics in the College of Engineering of the university and a past winner of an NTA network programme for junior scientists.
A statement by the institution said the invention was a 3KVA dual-battery generator that required neither solar power nor combustive material to generate electricity.
When the generator was presented to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Austine Uwakwe, by the Dean, College of Engineering, Dr Soccis Okoli, the VC said Gregory University remained committed to innovative problem-solving.
Uwakwe said, “The invention of a fuel-less generator will ensure the provision of uninterrupted, cost-free power supply to the masses which will go a long way in mitigating some of the harsh consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Earlier, Okoli stated that the generator was different from others, adding that the department was ready to mass-produce and market the product.
The inventor, Nwojoyi, said “The generator has an automatic change-over that turns the device on and off, thereby allowing instant change-over once an alternative power source comes on or off. This eliminates idle-time and the need for human intervention to change over”.
